Some Clarification about the use of DMR ID’s
Over the course of the past few weeks with the addition of around 300 new users to the system the question has been asked a few times on what role the DMR ID plays in authentication. The only real answer to this is nothing at all. As far as your phones are concerned the DMR ID does not come into play in how your phone authenticates to the server. Your username that goes into the phone is your 4 digit extension and then you use the password that is sent to you when we add your extension…. not the password you used to signup to the website. Those are two separate systems all together. What we do with your DMR ID is add it as a sip alias. This means that another user can dial your 4 digit extension and your phone will ring but they can also dial your DMR ID and your phone will also ring. This has been done in the name of future expansions. If for some reason we would need to jump to a 7 digit extension model we can move to using the DMR ID’s as the extension numbers instead. These are unique numbers and usually are also region specific. So in the event we ever needed to switch to the 7 digit extensions, and if we were to add in another PBX system (Which I am strongly considering doing one in Europe) we could use those DMR ID’s and put people closer to specific regions on another system and the dial plans would be able to route calls to the correct system for a smooth experience for our users.
