ZoiPer Setup

Hello, fellow Ham! Using ZoiPer or ZoiPer Pro is relatively easy, and only takes a few steps to get started with AmateurWire. Assuming you’re setting it up for the first time… :3

The ZoiPer platform comes in three flavors. The Free version of the app provides the main features like basic VoIP functionality, compatibility with both SIP and IAX protocols…

Pro (One-Time Payment) and Premium (Subscription) can do that, plus the addition of more advanced audio codecs, Conferencing, Call Transfer, Call Recording, stronger encryption options, Video Calls, and the ability to add more than one VoIP line.

The Free version of ZoiPer can only do one VoIP line… If you have a Hams Over IP (HOIP) extension or another VoIP Provider, you can use the Pro version. It’s $10, but it’s one-time.

Once you open the app, you’ll be on the “Account setup” page. What you have to do is enter the following:

Username @ PBX/VoIP Provider: [Your Username/Extension # you received]@[pbx1-wv.amateurwire.org or 208.180.48.42] (Either is fine, just however you prefer.)

Password: [The alphanrumeric soup that is the password you also should’ve received]

It will ask you on the next screen if the hostname is correct. Add the port number after the hostname. In this case, you should have “[pbx1-wv.amateurwire.org or 208.180.48.42]:5060”. It may say “Wrong hostname or bad/missing internet connectivity.” If you see that, it’s okay, just press “Use anyway”.

The next screen, you’ll see a screen requiring an authentication username and outbound proxy. As of the time of editing, AmateurWire and Hams Over IP does NOT require that. Just skip that step.

ZoiPer will automatically detect that SIP UDP is found. Nothing else has to be done, so just hit “Finish”. Congratulations! You just configured AmateurWire on ZoiPer. However, my lovely friend, that’s just the beginning…

Now, you need to get the Voicemail number… Press those three lines on the top left corner, and press settings. Accounts, and your AW account. Hit “Voicemail Extension” and enter “*97” and hit “OK”. Now, all you have to do is press and hold “1” on the dialpad to get to your voicemail.

While you’re at it, set your Caller ID to your name and callsign. Doesn’t matter if it’s first name or fullname, but it’s better to just have a name and call. Otherwise, it’ll just go with how you’re called in the phonebook. You can also set your account name to AmateurWire or whatever you call it.

…And that should be it! Hope this helped a lot, if not the AmateurWire Discord is always open. Happy Calling!
