Experimentation
I have been kicking around the idea of experimenting with a DMR server for quite some time. It’s not that the Amateur Radio community needs another DMR network…. It’s really my own curiosity and because I love finding out how these things work and how to run my own just for the fun of it. So yesterday (4-22-2026) I finally made the leap and began experimenting running a DMR server. It is actually up and running though I am not pleased with the dashboards that are out there to use so I am working on my own. This is a challenge since my coding knowledge is lacking A LOT and I am using the assistance of AI to do most of the heavy lifting at my direction. Anyone who wishes to just play around with the server by connecting hotspots or what not is welcome to do so.
The DMR server is dmr.amateurwire.org
The ports are all the same as all the other networks and the current password to connect your hotspot is passw0rd just like the others used to be. The current dashboard to let you see who is online and who is talking where can be found at https://dmr.amateurwire.org/index.php
I will attempt here soon to add some talk groups to it which can be found on the Talkgroup Info button on the dashboard but for right now you can put any talk group number in you wish… As long as others use the same talkgroup you will hear eachother. So right now there is no organization, it is the wild wild west up on here.
My next proposal is for ANYONE who can code.. Any of you who are web developers and maybe have a lot of spare time and want to have some fun. I am wanting to make a modern dashboard that comes complete with a user registration system, license verification, Admin back end to verify accounts and a self care portal to let users manage their own hotspots and repeaters. I want us to have what other DMR networks have but I would like to see it done better, cleaner, sleeker. I would like us to build something easy for everyone who wants to use it but look more modern. If you are interested in doing this let me know. This is all just for fun and again while I do not seek to replace any of the current large networks I would like to show them how it’s done and if it becomes successful then so be it. If not it’s still going to be here for those of us who know where it is to play with. Feel free to either comment on this post OR email Roger KE8LCM at ke8lcm@amateurwire.org or jump into our jitsi chat and talk with us. If I do not hear something in a few days then AI and I will begin working and see what we can come up with.
